Three Problems That Are Ruining Your Style (+ How To Solve Them)

Do you ever see other women and wonder how they manage to look so chic? Do you get dressed to hide a problem area, but feel like you’re only amplifying it? Here are three problems that are ruining your style, and how to solve them so you always look put together.

Problem #1: Your proportions are off.

Remedy: Style is all about balance! This comes with practice, and learning what works and what doesn’t. Notice the next time you think someone looks stylish - look beyond what they’re wearing and see how it's balanced. An oversized top will work well with slim pants and a heel to combat the proportion of the top. Pushing the sleeves up on a blazer or cuffing a jean can show enough skin to balance the proportions.

Problem #2: Unkempt clothes. Holes or pills in your clothing, or wearing pieces that are wrinkled or stained.

Remedy: Keep your clothing in good shape! Proper laundering is essential; make sure you read the care instructions, treat stains as soon as they happen, and if you notice a hole, get it fixed before it grows. Buy a sweater shaver to get rid of pills, and utilize a steamer! Steam is naturally deodorizing, it’ll refresh clothing, kill bacteria, and is more gentle on most fabrics than an iron.

Problem #3: Your clothes don’t fit properly.

Remedy: Understand the way clothing should fit, and utilize a tailor. If you’re buying oversized pieces to hide parts of your body, you’re adding volume and will end up making yourself look bigger. Know your measurements and purchase clothing for your actual body and size.

You can work on getting to your goal weight or your dream size all you want, but what about today, right now? How can you be happy with where you're at since you still need to get dressed every day? For instance - instead of wearing an oversized shirt to hide the stomach you're uncomfortable with, try a higher rise jean to bring it all in, while providing support.

There are so many ways to use fashion to your advantage and make you feel more comfortable in your own skin, just as it is. It just takes a little practice!
