Something that’s been on my mind…

Have you ever had a great idea, but were afraid of what people might think?

Starting a business is terrifying. You're creating a product or service to put out into the world, and nearly everyone will criticize it. They'll want to tell you how to change it, what to improve, what to do next. It can feel so overwhelming, like you’re constantly going to bat for your ideas before you’ve even put a finished product out there.

When I was in the middle of my self-doubt phase, ready to quit because I couldn't take the judgement or any more conversations starting with, ‘well have you thought about trying...’ I remembered something.

When I was bartending to save money after college, I was constantly asked when I was going to get a real job (even though I made more money than a lot of my friends with ‘real jobs’).

When I moved to LA and was an Intern Stylist, people looked at me funny because I was interning at 25. When I thought I was doing whatever was necessary to make it in my field, other people thought I was just wasting time.

When the opportunity came for me to start my own business, the fear of what others would think was holding me back. I was so nervous I almost didn't do it.

That’s when it occurred to me. No matter what you do, people will have an opinion. They’ll want to tell you how to change it, what to do differently, what they would create. But then it would be their vision, not yours, right?

Every job I've ever had, someone had something to say about it. Go for whatever it is you want because no matter what your career path looks like, there will be opinions and raised eyebrows and gossip about your choices. Do it anyway. Let them talk. Because it's your life, and YOU have to live with the choices you make, no matter who influenced you along the way. And if you do end up making your dreams come true, you’ll know that you had your own back the whole time.

This applies to personal style as well. Constantly getting dressed or making purchases based on what other people might think or judge you for is only going to hinder your creativity, and it'll take way longer to feel successful in your style. I hope you'll stop worrying about what other people think, and feel confident in any choice that feels like you.

Cheering for you, and whatever makes your heart happy.
